Week 9 Part A: Blogs, Vlogs, Podcasts & Webinars

It makes sense to add personal touch for example to a pasta sauce brand, like for example: the legend of the pasta dinners at home by the incredible Mother of a cook. I worked at a Mexican restaurant in New York and the story was that the maid of a wealthy New Yorker cooked so good her boss invested in her with a restaurant.  (Really a fable since it was owned by Chinese who had Mexicans working).

However there are more credible accounts for example GT kombucha has the story that the stuff was brewed at home for a mother with cancer, she ultimately recovered and much of the success was attributed to the kombucha.  (I personally think this is why the stuff sells, since even the owner and CEO makes fun of his funky tasting kombucha that will make you feel great).

You might want to keep personal ouch out of car commercials or a machining supply warehouse ad.  People are only interested in tech specifications, perhaps the style of the car but I think people do not want to hear a story about the machining supply warehouse's family.

Professional athletes always put in the personal touch for their Vlogs since they want to make people feel like they know them. This helps their fame and thus sell products they endorse.

  1. I understand what you are saying if you're limiting "personal touch" to only mean something related to the writer of the blog or advertisement. But if you consider a personal touch to be more broad, such as using humor in an advertisement in order to make the viewer laugh (hence, make a connection) or by using stories of people being arrested to advertise how a law firm helped them, or by showing a busy business person rushing around all morning and then finally getting her coffee at this one coffee house and suddenly her whole morning is better because of this coffee company. These are personal touches because they can be relatable to the viewer or reader.

But, just to add, another company who I love and they add their own personal touch on their bottles, is Dr. Bronner's soap. Their whole bottle talks a little bit about the history of how the company began and then goes on to tell their mission of what they are advocating for. It's a great company, a great product, and a great message. It definitely works well to connect with me as a customer.
